ZAMBIA - Fact file
MAP II PARKS II ITINERARIES
The name Zambia was derived from the Zambezi River which flows through the country (Zambezi means "grand river").
Zambia offers an authentic untouched feel in it's wilderness areas such as South and North Luangwa, Lower Zambezi, Kafue, Lake Bangweulu, Kasanka, Lake Kariba and the iconic Mosi oa Tunya (Victoria Falls). The last mentioned is reason enough to visit Zambia!
Zambia is home to the Big Five as well as many of the mammals found in East Africa. Black and white rhino were re-introduced after the local population had been poached to extinction. Its endemic animals are the Angolan and Thornicroft giraffe, Cookson's wildebeest, Crawshay's zebra, black and Kafue lechwe. The Zambian barbet is it's only endemic bird species.
Zambia is where the concept of walking safaris originated, the most adrenaline pumping wildlife activity there is.
It is recommended to travel with visas to both Zambia and Zimbabwe to see the Falls at their best, and to indulge in the many activities in and around the Falls.
Aside from the wildlife game drives, we offer quite a few offbeat activities like a game of polocrosse, a music and dance performance, white water rafting, guided tour of the Falls, guided tour of the Falls under moonlight / full moon, bungee, river cruise, fishing, dinner aboard an iconic train above the Falls, helicopter ride, microlight aircraft, bridgewalk, abseiling, high wiring, gorge swinging, canoeing, kayaking, riverboarding, jet boating, walking with lions and elephant riding! Yes contrary to general opinion, African elephants can be tamed.
We recommend a visit to a nearby village where you can interact with the indigenous Leya people.
